![]() To make this phase of land-grabbing cheaper, you can initially enact the Edict that reduces outpost creation cost, and then switch to the edict that reduces merge/absorb cost in the next phase. So I often end up with tons of territory, but no cities in the new world. However, I don't create New World cities until I get Settler tech. ![]() Outposts: I generally create outposts as I scout the New World (usually before I even have Settler tech), to prevent the AI from grabbing land. ![]() New World map: this probably won't work if there isn't a New World continent to begin with, since the goal here is to grab a lot of virgin territory cheaply.TL DR: Once you have Settler Tech, it is MUCH cheaper to settle 2-4 cities in the same turn, attach 2 outposts to each new city, and then merge all your cities into one 6-12 territory megacity city on the same turn, rather than attaching territory piecemeal and merging the cities later in the game. ![]()
